  • We love this question! So we have a whole page to support you in getting the most out of your First Float session with us - click here to find out more.

  • Yes, you can!

However, if this is your first time floating we recommend a Float Intro Pack (3x 60-minute floats).

    Let’s explain why…

There’s a common expectation that people experience deep relaxation on their first float after a lifetime of stress.

During your first float, it takes time for the mind to adjust and make sense of being in a world with no gravity, noise, or distraction. Experiences can range from mind chatter, boredom, neck or body tension, and less commonly deep relaxation.

Imagine going to the gym, after years of eating fastfood and not exercising with the expectation to gain a 6 pack after one session. Floating is the same and is not a one-and-done experience to find inner relaxation.

As you progress through your Float Intro Pack your mind becomes more familiar with and comfortable floating without distraction. The more you float the easier it becomes to start offloading all that stress and experience profound relaxation.

If you regularly float elsewhere and would like a float while your in Whangarei pop us an email info@gofloat.co.nz

  • This is a really common question and often comes from a previous experience of being trapped or feeling like you’re not in control.

Before you come into your first float, we want you to know you are in full control of your experience.

You’ll have your own private room with a lockable room, shower, and a floatation tank that you can get in and out of at any time. You can leave the floatation tank door open, turn the light on or have music on the whole time.

Once people get inside the tank and understand they are in full control of their experience, it can feel quite spacious (as if you were aquaman or a mermaid floating in space).

We also acknowledge and understand that if you have ever been physically/emotionally trapped, or experienced near drowning the thought of a float tank itself can trigger a stress response. If this resonates with you, we have practitioners at FLOAT. who can help you process and release this experience so you can get into the tank feeling more calm and relaxed.

When you’re ready, or if you have any questions we are here to support you.

  • Kava comes from the powdered root of the kava plant, found in the Pacific Islands. Kava is a cousin to Kawakawa and just like our plant has medicinal properties.

One of these is shifting the brain from high-beta stress waves to slower more relaxed brain waves. Where coffee is a stimulant and winds up brain activity, Kava does the opposite and slows it down.

When floating for the first time it is really common for your stressed and busy mind to enter the tank with you. Kava can be used as a tool to calm the mind down before getting into the tank and assist with relaxation.

Its effects begin within 2-5 minutes of drinking, and you may notice your tongue tingling, this is normal. The effects of relaxation last between 30-60 minutes before returning to normal.

We have kava available for $5 a bowl. If you’d like to try kava let your float host know.

  • You need to be able to get yourself in and out of the tank independently.

Please avoid floating if you have any of the following conditions:

Uncontrolled epilepsy, history of seizures, open wounds, skin infections, infectious diseases, serious psychological conditions, drug or alcohol intoxication.

Or any untreated or uncontrolled medical conditions: high or low blood pressure, prone to ear infections, reactions to Epsom salt or hydrogen peroxide or skin hypersensitivity.

If you are in your first trimester or have any concerns please discuss with your General Practitioner before floating.

  • We are looking into the feasibility of couples floating together in one tank at the same time, but currently this option is not yet available.

We recommend floating individually and afterward sharing your experiences together over a cup of tea.

  • Yes, if you do not use your float(s) from your Monthly or Fortnightly membership these will roll over for up to 6 months.

To get the full benefits of relaxation and moving away from a stress response. We recommend utilising your membership with regular floats, especially in your busy and stressful periods. Think of it as balancing out your stress.

If you realise floating is not for you and would like to cancel your membership we will give you 2 months to use or gift your floats.

All floats, including roll over floats expire 2 months from cancellation date of membership.

  • Yes, if you are in your second to third trimester floating helps take the pressure of pregnancy off your spine, reduce aches and pains and allows space to connect in with you and baby.

If you are in your first trimester or have any concerns, please discuss with your General Practitioner.

  • Yes, in fact you are encouraged to float while menstruating. Floating can be potentially helpful in easing the cramps, muscle tension and fatigue that are associated with menstruation. We require you to put in a fresh tampon or a menstrual cup right before floating, and please remember to check and change your menstrual supplies directly afterwards as some of the water may soak up into things like tampons. Ultimately, the general guidelines and protocols for floating while on your period are very similar to those for hot tubs and pools. So basically, you're good to go!

  • If you’ve recently dyed your hair please wait at least a week until after treatment. When washing your hair there should be no colour coming out, and then you're good to come float again!

  • Currently we offer two 60-minute MindBody Recordings from DreamPod, available for free to our members - just ask on the day! We'll be adding more in time so watch this space for more specialised experiences.

Stressbuster - stress symptoms can affect your body, thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Being able to recognize common stress symptoms can give you an advantage in managing them. Stress that's left unchecked can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. While floating itself offers a huge reduction in stress levels, the Stressbuster in-pod program helps you get even more out of your float session, while showing you ways to keep your life stress-free every day.

Mental Detox - like housekeeping for your mind, a unique way to sweep away all that emotional build-up that can accumulate over a lifetime, and replace it with beneficial ways to act and think. You'll use your imagination to transport yourself to a place you've never been before, to a place way outside your float tank. Lay back and enjoy your float experience as you go on a fascinating mental journey into the depths of your subconscious mind, where all your habits and life scripts are stored and acted upon.
